Skyscanner

This is my favourite place to book cheap and affordable flight worldwide. There are a lot of great deals and different options available

Expedia

Always finds you the best prices when booking a flight. It is very reliable 

Momondo

Brilliant for searching international flights, especially business-class tickets. They work by aggregating online ticket prices across multiple platforms

Kiwi

Comparitively, the lowest airfare website, that offers free protection for your connecting flights for peace of mind. 

Google Flights

Excellent user experience and customer review, with well laid out and intiuitive interface. Its best features is the ability to enable you search for flights across multiple airports with one query

Kayak

A household name and very reliant in finding decent flight search options at decent prices. It also has ravel packages for hotel bookings, car rentals and cruises

Skiplagged

Instead of searching for tickets strictly from City A to City B, Skiplagged also searches for hidden-city tickets 

Opodo

offers deals on regular and charter flights, it also offers low-cost airline search, hotels and car rentals. I find it helpful when travelling to North America. 

 

Hopper

if you are on the go and have little or no access to a laptop or computer, this mobile app helps you search for cheap flight prices. It can predict flight prices for up to a year in advance, and claims up to 95% accuracy.

Tips for getting cheap flights

It is possible to get cheap flights, regardless of your preferred flight path

  • Book two to three weeks in advance

    According to a Skyscanner, the best time to book a domestic flight is at least three weeks in advance and two weeks in advance for an international flight. Prices start increasing after the two-week mark and skyrocket the week before the departure date, so you'll be sure to snag a cheap flight by booking well in advance.

  • Earn travel rewards from credit cards

    Earning frequent flyer miles through travel rewards credit cards can earn you free flights. Almost all major airlines have frequent flyer cards, it is advisable to register for one whenever you book your flight if you already don’t have it. Some of the cards also sometimes gets you discounts and access to airports VIP lounges.  

  • Take your trip in off-peak season

  • Occasionally clear your browser history 

    When you use a browser, like Chrome, it saves some information from websites in its cache and cookies. Clearing them fixes certain problems and you can get better deal as the cookies that the website stores on your system is deleted. This allows you to start afresh

    Is a revolutionary financial app for all things money. From your everyday spending, to planning for your future with savings and investments. You can pay for products and services in any country and their local currency without being charged or paying for transaction charges. You also gain reward points as you spend that you can use in millions of shops around the world.

  • XE Currency Converter

    XE Currency Converter is a handy tool for checking the latest currency exchange rate when traveling and for changing money if you want to. It is easy and simple to use and usually 98% accurate.

Accommodation

Booking.com

An absolute favourite accommodation booking website; very easy to use and provides the cheapest and best deals, the customer review section also helps in making informed decision about a property. Register to get discounts as you book.

HostelWorld

Hostelworld has over 35000 properties in over 178 countries. This is the only accommodation you need if you are traveling on a budget. Some of the rooms are Dorm rooms, or private single room. You need to be careful as to your belongings and general security.

Agoda.com

This is usually very useful if you are travelling to the Far East and Asia. They usually offer the lowest prices for hotels and they have great rewards.

Couchsurfing

Here people offer their couch or spare room to travellers. This is another cheap way to travel, and it is also a brilliant way to meet locals and make new friends.

Airbmb

If you don't like living out of a suitcase, Airbnb is the best option for you. You can share a house with your host or rent the entire house or apartment for your self or group. You have the facilities and ability to cook. It is aslo very good if you are traveling with children. 

Hotel Tonight

If you are always on the road, this is a fabulous way to get incredible last minute hotel deals, you can get a 5 star hotel room for as much as 80% discount. This is one of my favourites in booking last minute getaway.

Insurance Providers in Europe

Students from non-EU countries are not covered for any free medical attention off-campus and must therefore have their own private insurance. Please note that heavy levies are charged for all hospitalization and it is advised to make provision for adequate medical insurance. Non-EU students are required to show proof of comprehensive medical insurance when registering with the Garda National Immigration Bureau. Proof of health insurance is also required when applying for a student visa.

Students are strongly advised to arrange insurance for private medical care as this ensures the choice of hospital, doctor and hospital accommodation in the event of illness.

Please note that you can only arrange health insurance with an Irish Health Insurance Provider when you are living in Ireland.

Car Rentals

Renting a car when you travel lets you travel at your own leisure and get to the spots you want to visit quickly and hassle-free.

The freedom this brings, allows you make the most of your travels without all the added stress of  having to find your way around.

It is also very handy renting a car if you are traveling as a group or as a family, and much cheaper than taking a taxi or uber. You can book directly from car rental websites or do a quick comparison to see the best deal out there. We have put together some of our favourite car booking metasearch engine out there. Hope it helps!

  • Travel Supermarket

    This is one of the best car rentals comparison websites out there now, it gives you the best deals on car rental. It is extremely simple to use, just type in your destination and travel times into our search bar at the top of the page and we’ll do the rest. Once you’ve reviewed the range of car rental deals on your screen, you can narrow down your search results using our useful filters. They work with some of the biggest names in the business, such as Avis, Enterprise, Alamo, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and National.

  • Momondo

    This is another good metasearch engine. It compares prices of a lot of car rental companies. You will never actually book your trip on Momondo, instead, you can use the site to search for the best prices, then you’ll get transferred to that rental agency or online travel agency to book. Momondo offers Surprise Agency bookings — these “opaque bookings” offer better prices, but you won’t know the rental agency until after you complete your transaction. Plus, Momondo never charges any booking fees.

  • Rental Cars

    This is one of the biggest car metasearch engines and is available in over 60,000 locations worldwide, they offer free cancelation and have customer service advisors in more than 40 languages and of course offers very good deals.

  • Priceline

    This car comparison site gained fame from the “Priceline Negotiator” and the “Name Your Own Price” tool. These tools brought opaque bookings to the forefront, but both have since been eliminated. You can, however, still get good deals on opaque bookings (one in which certain details are hidden until after the transaction is complete). If you don’t have a car rental agency preference, check out one of Priceline’s Express Deals. With these rentals, you won’t know the exact agency until after your booking is complete, and the reservations are non-refundable.

They provide a wide range, from 2 to 5 star accommodations with holiday ranging from family fun packed holiday to sun soaked luxury getaways both for couples, individuals or group travels. This includes return flights, 22kg baggage allocation, airport and hotel transfers and hotel accommodation.

  • On the Beach

    As the name suggest, this holiday platform exclusively book amazing and affordable beach holidays. They pride themselves as the largest and best UK beach travel retailers and rightly so. They provide you with great beach destinations at amazing prices. On the Beach act as an agent, providing a web search interface between you and various third party suppliers of travel products (e.g. flight, hotel or transfer).
